Over recent years Rennie Ellis has come to be recognised as a figure of central importance in the history of Australian photography. This is clearly evident in his long list of professional accomplishments, which not only testify to the vibrancy of his own photographic practice, but also show that he was an instrumental advocate for Australian photography generally. The current selection of editioned silver gelatin prints being issued by the Rennie Ellis Photographic Archive is being presented under the theme of "Heroes and Anti-Heroes". This is a theme that highlights Ellis's remarkable ability to photograph people from all walks of life,
