Crime News, December 11th, 2018: Elizabeth Lecron (23) has been arrested for planning a bomb attack.
Elizabeth Lecron, known on tumblr as ‘charlestonchurchmiracle’, was arrested Monday and charged with the transportation of explosives and explosive material for the purposes of harming others and property. She first came to the FBI’s attention after someone reported to them that she had “expressed a desire to conduct a violent act.”
As they began to monitor her, the authorities became increasingly concerned to the point of great alarm - when they realised she was actively planning an act of terror. Authorities say she had had multiple plans for how to go about this, beginning with a plot to commit a mass shooting at a bar in Toledo, Ohio.
She had told an FBI undercover agent that the bar only had two exits and that she knew where they were, giving her an advantage in being able to kill as many people as possible. But then her plan changed to bombing a livestock farm with the goal of freeing the animals.
After this, she attempted to find such a farm but couldn’t, so she changed targets again. Her next plan was to commit a mass shooting at her place of work, which she was convinced was polluting the river behind it. By this point she had also bought an AK-47 rifle, a shotgun, multiple handguns and a large cache of ammunition.
The authorities were monitoring her extremely closely by this point, so knew immediately when she began to buy the components necessary to construct a bomb earlier this month. On December 8th, she purchased two pounds of Hodgson Triple Seven Muzzleloading Propellant, then bought 665 screws to use as shrapnel in the bomb from a sporting goods store.
Her final bombing target was to be an oil pipeline in the state of Georgia. When the FBI realised her planned attack was getting more and more realistic, they made the move to arrest her. Justin Herdman, the US attorney for the Northern District of Ohio, stated: “This defendant bought black powder and hundreds of screws that she expected would be used to make a bomb. Through her words and actions, she demonstrated that she was committed to seeing death and destruction in order to advance hate.”
Authorities say that, when told by an undercover agent her planned bombing would harm innocent bystanders, she said that they are: “part of the problem”. She is currently being held without bail and is to be prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Michael Freeman. If convicted of these charges she faces a considerable prison sentence.
