I’d like mine medium rare, please.
In 258 AD the Christian martyr St. Lawrence of Rome was ordered to
turn over all the property and money of his church to the Prefect of
Rome. Rather than turn over the money to the greedy Roman official, he
had it distributed to the poor.
As punishment for his rebellious act St. Lawrence was ordered to be
roasted alive on a grill. While being cooked, St. Lawrence cheerfully
remarked, “I’m well done, time to turn me over now!”
Today St. Lawrence is recognized as the patron saint of cooks and chefs.
