Fun Fact: Diabetes mellitus, which comes from the Greek for “to pass through” and “flavored with honey,” was so named because, as Dr. Thomas Willis so aptly noted in 1674, the urine of a diabetic patient will taste “wonderfully sweet as if it were imbued with honey or sugar.” Pictured here is a (thankfully) defunct diagnostic tool called a urine flavor wheel.
