“At the time I connected with these people because they seemed as hopeless and strange as I did. I found acceptance in it because I was a depressed teenager and I didn’t have any other outlets to look through, so I found an outlet through negativity”
Russel Frantom, a then 16 year old Penn high school (Indiana) student would spend his time chatting online via myspace about columbine, with other teenagers. The depressed teenage boy was secretly plotting a massacre himself , wanting to ’break the current shooting record’ and get ’instant recognition’ as he would describe in his black spiral notebook, only a few days before before the 9th anniversary of the columbine shooting.
Russel spent about a week talking with Lee Bill, a 33 year old man from Ohio, about the ’party’ ,as they liked to call the massacre they were planning to carry out on september 11, 2008 since that that that day was ’already iconic’.
According to a 2009 report, Billi had told Frantom that he should visit gun shows, where he could buy firearms without being registered, and he told him how to make explosives.
But before the planned day of the shooting a comment posted by Russel on a website dedicated to his school, in which he said that he hoped something similar to columbine would happen in his school, caught the attention of a school ressource officer, who first called Frantom in to speak to the school’s principal, before calling the police.
Police officiers went through Russel’s residence and found over 100 knives, and some illegal snakes, the house was ‘in a rundown neighborhood scattered with vacant houses.’ described usa today.
The 33 year old,was sentenced to be jailed 10 years , after after the police found images of children being raped among other child pornography ,and 3 boxes of ammunition in his house,. He had claimed to be molested as a child, said that he ’ wanted to see if they suffered like he did’ and pleaded guilty of inciting violence and of 38 counts of pandering sexually oriented material involving a minor, while Frantom was placed in a juvenile detention facility for 9 (?) months, pleading guilty to a juvenile count of conspiracy to commit murder, he now is a 24 year old visual artist (check out his art here) and he expressed being happy that he was stopped:
“I’m very grateful that the resource officer was able to intervene and stop it,”
“I think that I set myself up to be caught in the first place… I think maybe I finally felt free.”
“I made it out and it could have been so much worse for me,” he said in an interview on ABC news
“There’s always a way out. That’s the lesson that I’ve learned, and that’s why I am in a way grateful for the route that I’ve gone down.”

"Drunk at the matinee" is a collection of candid poetry about stupid shit that we all experience from day to day.
