A death erection, which is also known as “angel lust” is a post-mortem erection which is most often observed in males who have been executed by hanging, or suicide victims. It is attributed to pressure on the cerebellum created by the noose. It can occur in other methods of death, including gunshot wounds to the brain, damage to major blood vessels, and sometimes poison. A postmortem erection is an indicator that death was likely swift and violent.
