On March 24, 2012, 13-year-old Noah Crooks shot and killed his mother, Gretchen Crooks. He explained to the 911 operator that the motivation was because she had taken away his Call of Duty video game following his bad grades in school. He also attempted to rape his mother before contacting his father, who was out of the house at the time. He texted: “Dad this is Noah. I killed Mom accidentally. I regret it. Come home now please.” He then called the police: “I’m not joking at all. She’s dead. I’m scared. I killed my mom with my .22. I don’t know why I did it. I feel crazy and I know I’m not. I think I have some form of ADD. I tried to rape her. I tried to rape her but I couldn’t do it. Who tries to rape their own mom? My life is down the drain now.”
Crooks was convicted of second-degree murder and sentenced to up to 50 years in prison.
