The Different Types of Terrorists

Revolutionary Terrorist
The main objective of revolutionary terror groups is to instill fear in those in power to replace an existing government with a regime which holds the political and religious views that they deem acceptable.

Political Terrorist
This form of terrorist directs violence toward those who oppose or threaten their political ideology.

Eco-Terrorist
These groups are involved in violent actions they feel will help to protect the environment. The Earth Liberation Front or ELF has been known to commit arson against housing developments, SUV dealerships, and chain stores in hopes to further their agenda.

Nationalist Terrorist
Groups who identify as nationalist terrorists carry out actions which promote the interests of a minority or religious group that has been persecuted under the majority rule.

Retributive Terrorist
This form of terrorist uses violence as a method of influence, persuasion, or intimidation in order to achieve a particular objective.

State-Sponsored Terrorist
The acts committed by these terrorists are carried out by a repressive government regime with the objective to force its citizens into obedience, oppress minorities, and stifle political dissent.

Lone-Wolf Terrorist
These terrorists generally work alone, or without the direction of a specific terrorist group leader. An example of a lone-wolf terrorist is Timothy McVeigh, the perpetrator behind the Oklahoma City Bombing.
