Robert Hansen,
known in the media as the ‘’Butcher Baker’’, is responsible for the
murders of at least 17 women between 1971 and 1983, although police
believe he is killed more than 30 women. Growing up, Robert was
tormented by his peers for having acne and speaking with a stutter. In
high school, he watched enviously as other boys went on dates with girls
while he was shunned by them. Due to this, he harbored cruel fantasies
about getting revenge on the attractive girls at his school. Even though
Robert would go on to get married and have kids of his own, he was
still deeply affected by the bullying and rejection as an adult. Robert
would typically find prostitutes and dancers and whisk them away on his
private plane, bringing them to isolated areas of the Alaskan Wilderness
where he would demand sex. He would only set them free if they
complied. However, if they refused, Robert would kill them.
Investigators believe that Robert played a kind of hunt-and-kill game
with his victims, releasing them in the wilderness and then hunting them
down with a bow and arrow or gun. After one of his potential victims
managed to escape from him, Robert was arrested. He readily admitted to
the murders and led police to all the burial sites. The judge handed him
a life sentence which he served out until he died in August 2014, when
he was 75.
