Stephen Paddock and conspiracy theories

New evidence suggests Las Vegas gunman Stephen Paddock was a believer in conspiracy theories surrounding government gun grabs and FEMA camps. Paddock attempted to pay a man $500 for an auto sear, which would have allowed him to convert semi-automatic guns into fully automatic. The man declined, at which point Paddock started rambling about government confiscation of guns and how the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina was a ‘dry run’ for the government to set up sinister FEMA camps to imprison people.

Additionally, Paddock was overheard discussing the upcoming 25th anniversary of the Ruby Ridge siege, when survivalist Randy Weaver and his family where involved in a protracted stand-off with the federal government ending in the deaths of his wife and his son. He was also heard discussing the idea that court rooms displaying flags with gold fringe are illegitimate, an idea believed by some in the ‘Sovereign Citizen’ movement.

Most chilling was Paddock’s comment to his would-be gun dealer: “Somebody has to wake up the American people and get them to arm themselves…sometimes sacrifices have to be made.”
Less politically charged were Paddock’s encounters with hotel staff. Paddock maintained awkward eye contact with maid, who also noted that  the amount of luggage he had in the room seemed unusual. He came off as creepy and quick-tempered, screaming at people over the phone when he felt luggage took too long coming up to his room.
