“Mummy
wrapped in a cloth in a box leaning upright against a wall in Chicago,
Illinois. This picture was taken at McInerney’s undertaking
establishment at 51st Street and State Street. The body or mummy was
found on Oct. 29, 1903, in a gravel pit at 56th Street and South Park
Avenue, wrapped in a piece of carpet and placed within a long box. There
also was speculation that the dead person was a murder victim although
no identity was found.”
Chicago Daily News, October 30, 1903.
