Dying alone is a relatively common fear that many people share, but imagine dying alone and not one person noticing that you were gone for a prolonged period of time. This is exactly what happened to 38-year-old Joyce Vincent, who passed away in her London bedsit and lay undiscovered for two years. Even more upsetting is the fact that when she was finally discovered, she was surrounded in Christmas presents that she had purchased and wrapped yet not one of these people noticed that she was missing. Her body was completely skeletonised so her cause of death could not be determined. Who knows how long she would have remained undiscovered if it were not for the bayliffs breaking into her home due to outstanding rent that she (quite evidently) hadn’t paid.
The documentary, Dreams of a Life, is based on her life.
