It’s probably the most recognised breakfast cereal, but the origin of Cornflakes is weirder than you’d think.

Dr. Kellogg invented Cornflakes in 1878 in the hope that it would stop his patients from masturbating. They were eventually marketed as a “healthy, ready-to-eat anti-masturbatory morning meal”, as it was believed food with more exotic flavour or spice envoked sexual compulsions.
