It is clear in philosophy that the world that we 'see' around us is not the real world (Kant's thing in itself) but our mind's representation of our senses. The sky is not blue, this is something that our minds create. Thus the problem for philosophy (physics, metaphysics) has been to try and use reason to work out what the real world must be that causes our senses (and ourselves!). Now this opens up interesting possibilities for Art, for as our mind represents reality, likewise our Art is also created by representation. Thus Art has the potential to correct the errors of our mind's representation of reality, by a further representation of Art that overcomes these naive real illusions to 'see'Saturday, July 18, 2009
