Haiku Circus

Haiku Circus is a comic strip that combines drawings with text in 5, 7, 5 syllable groupings in supposed imitation of haiku poetry. The comic is written and drawn by Ken Sakamoto, and appears in several college and university newspapers across North America.

It has been publishing online since September 9, 2003. A new comic is posted every Monday.

The comic has no major recurring themes, but over the years several characters and themes seem to reappear. Some themes that Sakamoto enjoys writing about include:

  • fish
  • cookies drowning in milk
  • lonely people / boredom
  • food in general
  • the people on signs
  • insects
  • anthropomorphism
  • fountains of blood
