Bacon
F.Bacon - You see, painting has now become, or all art has now become completely a game, by which man distracts himself. What is fascinating actually is, that it's going to become much more difficult for the artist, because he must really deepen the game to become any good at all.

"Drunk at the matinee" is a collection of candid poetry about stupid shit that we all experience from day to day.

It's weird... just today, I was remembering my favorite definition of art, which relies on the assumption that we're automatons. If you can buy that, art is anything that shakes us out of robot mode long enough to blink and look around. With the internet and availability of so much interesting stuff, I'm reminded of the ancient Chinese curse "May you live in interesting times." Seems this curse goes double for the artist, huh? Feed the whole equation into a reality where art = diversion, and most of us will be hard pressed to even envision something beyond our medium's equivalent of elevator music.
