NGC 4911

NGC 4911 is a spiral galaxy located about 320 million light years away int he Coma Cluster of galaxies, towards the constellation Coma Berenices. The Coma Cluster contains nearly 1,000 galaxies, one of the densest galaxies clusters nearby.

Due to its high density, many galaxies in the Coma Cluster face strong galactic interactions with their neighbors. NGC 4911 is no exception. Its neighbor, NGC 4911A, is responsible for pulling material from NGC 4911, creating the curious rings around the galaxy. Eventually, NGC 4911 will become an elliptical galaxy, as most do in the center of the Coma Cluster.
