The Axeman of New Orleans terrorized the city of New Orleans in the early 1900s, butchering a total of twelve people to death in their own homes with no apparent motive–none of the victims’ items were ever stolen. The axes used to hack his victims normally belonged to the victims themselves. In a letter he himself sent to the police, he claimed to be a ‘’demon from the hottest hell’’ as well as a huge fan of jazz, vowing to never attack any house in which a jazz band was hired to sing.
The murder spree inexplicably ceased after two years, and the Axeman was never identified.
